Your Cat’s Whiskers

Your cat’s whiskers are highly specialized hairs connected to sensitive nerves to help enhance her perceptive abilities. They grow to approximately the width of your cat so she can tell whether her body will squeeze through small openings. If her head and whiskers fit through the opening so will the rest of her body. The whiskers help your cat judge distance and height so she can easily jump from surface to surface with confidence that she won’t fall. Your cat’s whiskers can also sense vibrations so she can become aware movement of prey such as mice or where you are, even in the dark. She can sense location and distance with ease. Never cut your cat’s whiskers since this could cause disorientation and confusion. Old whiskers will fall out on their own to be replaced with new ones as needed.
