Uveitis in Siamese Ferrets

Before you purchase or adopt a Siamese ferret make sure you know about the basic care and health needs that ferrets require. For instance, your vet can tell you about common health risks associated with ferrets. Ferrets, in general, are known for eye injuries both big and small. They’re also prone to develop eye diseases including Uveitis. Uveitis is inflammation of the uvea or the middle layer of the eye. The condition is most often caused by trauma to the eye. For instance, a wound to the eye can become infected, which can lead to the development of the Aleutian’s disease virus known as Uveitis. Uveitis can then lead to other diseases of the eye including cataracts and glaucoma. Unlike other eye conditions in ferrets, Uveitis can be treated with anti-inflammatory medications. Call your vet care Northwest Denver area, CO if you notice anything out of the ordinary.
