Picking Up Your Cat Properly

Picking Up Your Cat Properly

You need to pick your cat up properly so you don’t injure her or make her angry. First make sure she is okay with being picked up. Look for friendly body language such as an erect tail, purring and rubbing against your legs. If your cat is irritated she may hide or hiss or display other negative signs. Do not pick her up like this unless it is an emergency. When you are ready to pick up your cat, place one hand under her chest behind her front legs. Use the other hand and your forearm under her belly to lift the rear end and keep her horizontal. Pull your cat to your chest or place her on a higher surface. Never lift your cat by a limb, her tail, the scruff of the neck, or even by her front legs like you would a human child. Contact your vet Ellicott City, MD to learn more.
