Keeping Fleas From Biting Your Dog

Fleas carry diseases and parasites that can make your dog ill and, in some cases, can even kill him. Fleabites are terribly itchy and your dog’s scratching can cause wounds that could get infected. And if uncontrolled, you could have a flea infestation in your home. Treat your dog with a flea prevention product all year round since just a few warm days could make fleas active. Be sure this product manages both larvae and adult fleas. This medication comes in both topical and oral forms. Brush your dog regularly and look for signs of fleas such as fleabites and flea dirt. Maintain your yard to keep fleas away. This includes mowing the lawn, raking and trimming brush. Vacuum your home often and discard the dirt outside to avoid infestation. If fleas get ahead of you, you may need to have your home professionally treated. For more information, contact your Happy Valley, OR veterinarian.
