Offering your dog food off your plate

Your dog loves to get something special to munch on, and this includes snagging a bite or two off your plate if you let him. Is it okay to share your food with your pet like this?

The answer to this question isn’t very straightforward. There are a lot of foods that humans eat that are unsafe for canine consumption, so you will need to be conscious of the ingredients in your food. One day you may have a safe meal to share while the next you might not. It also depends on what is acceptable for behavior in your home. Offering food off your plate can encourage your pet to beg at the table for something to eat, so it’s up to your family to determine if this is something you’d like to discourage or not.
