Best Upholstery Fabrics When You Have a Dog

Dogs aren’t always very gentle on furniture. That can be a very bad thing if you’re spending hundreds of dollars to replace or reupholster your furniture every few years. If you want to make your furniture last, choose couches and chairs that are upholstered with these fabrics.

Leather is probably the easiest fabric to maintain when you share your home with a dog. It doesn’t attract and trap dog hair, and it’s extremely easy to wipe clean. Faux leather can work too.

If you don’t like the idea of leather, choose a smooth, patterned fabric. The pattern can hide small amounts of dog hair, but it can still be vacuumed and wiped clean.

Try and avoid twill or tweed fabrics, velvet, and suede. If you really want your furniture to last, consider having it upholstered with outdoor fabric!
