Your Cat Whiskers

Your Cat’s Whiskers

Your cat’s whiskers are thick, highly specialized hairs that are connected to sensitive nerves. These whiskers help enhance your cat’s perceptive abilities. The whiskers by your cat’s nose grow to about the width of her body. She uses the whiskers to determine whether she can squeeze through small spaces. If her head and whiskers fit through the opening, your cat’s body will fit through too. The whiskers also pick up vibrations so your cat can tell the height and distance of surfaces so she can make jumps from place to place in safety. The vibrations also help your cat locate prey such as a mouse or maybe even you. These location abilities help your cat locate prey in the dark too. Never trim your cat’s whiskers or she could be confused or disoriented. Old worn whiskers will fall out to be replaced by new ones.
