Fleas and Your Cat

Fleas and Your Cat

Fleas can be annoying and cause itching and scratching that can become infected wounds. Your cat can also be exposed to a number of dangerous diseases transmitted by fleas. You can get bitten too. Fleas congregate in shrubs and grasses so keep your yard tightly trimmed. Squirrels and other small mammals can introduce fleas to your yard. Fleas can get into your home by hitching a ride on people’s clothing or other pets so even indoor cats can be exposed. When you brush your cat, look for evidence of fleas such as bites or flea dirt. Treat your cat with a flea prevention medication to keep fleas away from your cat. Make sure the medication you chose kills both adult fleas and their eggs for best results. And only use medication that is formulated for cats since dog flea medication is toxic to cats. Contact the Briargate Blvd Animal Hospital Colorado Springs CO to learn more.
