Your Cat’s Kneading

Your Cat’s Kneading

Most cat owners know the pleasure and pain of having a cat knead their laps. As a kitten your cat kneads her mother to stimulate milk so she is transferring the nurturing and loving to you. She also marks you as her own using scent from glands in her feet. Thus the kneading is all about spreading the love even if it is painful when your cat sinks her claws into your legs. Trim your cat’s nails often to lessen the damage done while kneading. Never yell at your cat or punish her from kneading since she is just showing you love. However, don’t be shy about slipping a lap blanket or small pillow between your cat’s nails and your lap so the nails don’t scratch your skin. And take the time to cuddle and pet your cat while she is kneading you. Consult your Lafayette, LA veterinary clinic for additional information. Learn more here.
