Deciphering Feline Behavior – Head-Rubbing On Owners

Do you have an idea why your kitty body-rubs or head-butts you?
Some cats can become so pushy and seem obsessed with butting their heads against their owners, while there are those that take their time, slowly rubbing their body and tail around their humans.
There are two distinct terms that are used to describe this unique feline behavior – bunting (cat rubs on objects) and allo-rubbing (cats rub against people or other animals). With bunting, cats may start rubbing the corner of their mouth and the side of their head against the object. They often reserve the full-body rub on the ankles of their favorite humans. Behavior experts often interpret this behavior as a cat’s way of saying to their humans “you are important to me”. As for bunting other cats, the behavior is often seen as a way of redirecting or averting aggressive behavior; or maybe it’s a cat’s way of showing the peace sign.
Any sudden change/s in your pet’s behavior should be brought to the attention of your Oak Hill Animal Hospital.
