Vaccinations and Your Dog

Vaccinations and Your Dog

As a puppy, your dog receives a certain amount of protection from disease while nursing his mother’s milk. However, soon afterward your dog will need vaccinations to protect him from a number of dangerous and deadly diseases. Some vaccinations are required by law so check with your local animal control agency to understand your obligations. Other vaccinations are suggested depending on risk on a local level and what your dog could be exposed to. Some vaccinations will give your dog immunity from disease in just one shot while others require a series of shots. And all vaccinations require periodic booster shots. Ensure that you don’t miss any shots in a series or booster shots. Your dog may be sleepy or cranky after receiving a vaccination and can be sore at the injection site.
