Introducing a Second Dog to Your Home

Introducing a Second Dog to Your Home

A second dog can make a good companion for your resident dog especially if you aren’t home during the day. The dogs can keep each other company and play together. However, introducing a second dog to your home should be done with care. The second dog doesn’t have to be the same breed or size as the resident dog but you need to manage their interactions so no one gets injured. If possible, introduce the two dogs to each other in a neutral place such as a park. Keep the dogs separated and allow them to sniff each other and at least tolerate each other before bringing them home. Ensure each dog as his own bowl, bed and toys so there isn’t any fighting. They will probably share or switch belongings anyway but removing the temptation helps lead to a smooth transition. Ensure each dog gets ample attention from you.
