Nosebleeds in Rex Guinea Pigs

Nosebleeds in any pet or human can be a scary thing, but don’t panic. Nosebleeds in your Rex guinea pig, for example, can be a common occurrence especially if your cavy is prone to allergies. Dust in the air can irritate the nasal cavity and even dry it out causing the nose to bleed on occasion. What you should worry about is if your cavy has a constant and excessive nose bleed. In this instance you should call your vet right away to discuss symptoms, possible causes, and even schedule an in office exam. In extreme cases, a nose bleed can signal an underlying illness such as a tumor in the nasal cavity or a respiratory infection. More common reasons for a nosebleed in the Rex is lack of vitamin C and vitamin K in the diet. Make sure you are feeding your cavy a consistent diet approved by your veterinarian Indianapolis, IN.
