Summer Heat and Your Dog

Summer Heat and Your Dog

With the warm weather upon us, it is essential that you take precautions to protect your dog. Don’t leave your dog outside for long periods of time. If it is too hot for you to be outside, it is too hot for your dog in his fur coat. Keep up your regular exercise routine but choose the coolest part of the day. Protect your dog’s feet with booties when walking on hot surfaces or keep him on the grass. Consider taking your dog swimming or give him access to a sprinkler or baby pool under supervision. Brush your dog often to remove excess hair to keep him cool. Never leave your dog in the car alone for even a short period of time. It can get dangerously hot very quickly. And ensure that your dog has access to fresh, clean water at all times. For more information, contact your Aurora, CO veterinarian.
