Preventing Dog Fights

Dog fights can be noisy and frightening.Plus your dog could get hurt. There may not seem to be any signs of aggression and a fight may break out. However, most often there are signals if you watch for them. It can be a quick flash of teeth or a low growl. Staring another dog down could cause a fight too. You may notice body language that can lead to a fight too. A dog with his head and tail held high and chest out and even some puffed up fur will get a reaction from another dog. If you see a dog behaving this way or if your dog is acting aggressively, keep the dogs separated. Insist that your dog sits at your side. Keep his attention on you rather than the other dog. Ask the other dog’s owner to keep away. Now is not the time to be polite. For more information, contact your Louisville, CO veterinarian.
