Helping Your Dog be a Good Neighbor

Your dog will do whatever he thinks he can get away with. Always keep your dog on a leash when he is outside your home except when in approved off-leash areas. Work with your dog to learn basic obedience and manners. There should be no jumping up, no chasing, no nipping. Socialize your dog with adults, dogs, cats and especially, children. Always clean up your dog’s feces. It’s the polite thing to do. Get any barking under control especially in the early morning hours and overnight. Keep your dog inside since unattended dogs tend to bark, menace people or dig out of the yard. Spay or neuter your pet to prevent unwanted litters and to reduce aggression and wandering. It’s up to you to establish your dog’s reputation as a nuisance or a welcome member of the neighborhood. For more information, contact your Marion, IA veterinarian.
